1. About SoloSafe
SoloSafe is a personal safety timer application designed for solo travelers and other users who want a structured check-in plan. Users set a timer before an activity. If the user does not check in by the deadline, SoloSafe attempts to send automated alerts to user-designated emergency contacts via available channels such as SMS and/or email with the user's alert status and last known location when available.
2. Eligibility
You must be 18 years or older to use SoloSafe. By using SoloSafe, you represent that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
3. How It Works
3.1 Users manually add emergency contacts, such as name, phone number, and email address.
3.2 Users set a timer duration from 15 minutes to 7 days and may add an activity type or note.
3.3 Users must check in, extend, or cancel the timer before the deadline to prevent alert attempts.
3.4 If the user does not check in, SoloSafe attempts to send pre-written alert messages to designated contacts.
3.5 Free plan location data is collected at the moment the timer is started. Pro plan location data may refresh about once per hour while a timer is active and the device has coverage, so alerts can include a more recent last known location when available.
4. SMS Consent and Safety Alerts
SoloSafe sends transactional safety and account messages only. Registered users may opt in to SMS notifications during account setup. If a registered user adds an emergency contact, SoloSafe sends that contact an SMS invitation. The emergency contact must reply YES before SoloSafe sends future SMS safety alerts to that contact. Recipients may reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. See our SMS Consent page for details.
5. Consent and Emergency Contacts
5.1 You are responsible for entering accurate emergency contact information.
5.2 You should only add emergency contacts who know you and who are willing to receive safety alerts related to your SoloSafe use.
5.3 Emergency contacts are not subscribed to marketing or promotional messages.
5.4 SoloSafe messages are transactional safety and account notifications triggered by user activity, missed check-ins, account events, or emergency contact consent flows.
6. Opt-Out for Contacts
Any emergency contact may opt out of receiving SMS alerts by replying STOP to any SMS message received from SoloSafe. After opt-out, SoloSafe will no longer send SMS messages from that number to that contact unless the contact later opts back in where supported. Email and other channels may have their own unsubscribe, blocking, or opt-out mechanics.
7. Data We Collect
7.1 User account information, such as email address and phone number.
7.2 Emergency contact information entered by the user, such as name, phone number, and email address.
7.3 Timer data, such as start time, deadline, activity type, start location, check-in status, and for Pro users, hourly location updates while a timer is active and coverage is available.
7.4 Message and delivery data used to operate, troubleshoot, and improve SoloSafe.
7.5 We do not sell personal data or share personal data with third parties for their marketing or advertising.
8. How We Use Data
8.1 To provide and operate the SoloSafe service.
8.2 To send account, timer, check-in, opt-in, and safety alert messages.
8.3 To maintain timer records, troubleshoot errors, and improve reliability.
8.4 To process subscriptions and payments through third-party payment providers.
8.5 To comply with legal, security, fraud prevention, carrier, and messaging compliance requirements.
9. Data Storage and Security
SoloSafe uses third-party service providers, including Google, Make.com, Twilio, PayPal, and email providers, to operate the service. SoloSafe uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect data, but no system, transmission method, storage system, automation, or messaging provider can be guaranteed to be secure, uninterrupted, or error-free.
10. Third-Party Services
SoloSafe may rely on third-party platforms and service providers to operate, including Twilio for SMS and messaging delivery, Make.com for automation and alert dispatching, Google services for hosting or data storage, PayPal for payment processing, and email providers for email delivery. These providers have their own terms, privacy policies, security practices, uptime limitations, filtering rules, and delivery systems. SoloSafe is not responsible for outages, delays, filtering, restrictions, or failures caused by third-party services.
11. No Guarantee of Delivery, Monitoring, Rescue, or Emergency Response
SoloSafe is a safety notification tool only. SoloSafe does not guarantee that any alert, SMS, email, location update, check-in reminder, timer event, or emergency contact notification will be delivered, received, read, opened, or acted upon. Delivery may fail or be delayed due to factors outside SoloSafe's control, including poor or unavailable cellular coverage, internet outages, device battery failure, disabled permissions, inaccurate GPS or location services, user device settings, operating system restrictions, carrier filtering, third-party service outages, Twilio, email provider, Make.com, Google, PayPal, or other platform issues, incorrect contact information, emergency contact unavailability, or force majeure events.
SoloSafe is not an emergency service, dispatch service, rescue service, professional monitoring service, or substitute for calling 911 or local emergency services. Users should not rely on SoloSafe as their only safety plan. If you are in immediate danger, expect to be unreachable, or need emergency assistance, contact local emergency services directly.
12. User Responsibility for Testing and Backup Plans
Users are responsible for testing SoloSafe before relying on it, keeping their device charged, enabling required permissions, maintaining cellular or internet connectivity where possible, confirming that emergency contacts have opted in and can receive messages, keeping contact information accurate, checking in before timers expire, and having a backup safety plan. SoloSafe should be used as an additional notification layer, not as the sole method of personal safety or emergency response.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SoloSafe and its owners, operators, contractors, vendors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any injury, loss, damage, missed alert, delayed alert, failed message, failed location update, unavailable emergency contact, inaccurate location, data loss, service interruption, or failure to obtain emergency assistance arising from or related to use of SoloSafe. SoloSafe is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind.
